This aromatic resin from the Commiphora myrrha tree in Yemen is considered the highest quality myrrh in the world. It is sweet and has a sharpness that heightens the senses. In some cultures it is burned along with frankincense on charcoal, complementing frankincences' more etheric tones with an earthier note that contains powerful antimicrobial and healing compounds. Just as the resin heals a tree and protects its wounds, I feel that it does the same for our minds and bodies. I prefer to heat Myrrh resin on a piece of oil on a mug warmer (small hotplate) instead of charcoal, as the scent is smoother this way. I also like to tincture myrrh and use it to disinfect wounds, including for the gums (a couple drops of myrrh tincture in a cup of water is all that is needed).
This resin can be simply kept in a special container and smelled directly, it can be tinctured or infused in oil, or it can be ground and burned on charcoal. You can even infuse bath water with a piece.
Please be considerate of your usage, as the sustainability of this wild harvest is only maintained if we consume it slowly and in small amounts.
